Two new students joined my eighth-grade class and, as you can see below, they made an obvious and lasting impression on me.

The Twins Came to School

When we arrived back at school for the start of the eighth grade, there was a pleasant surprise waiting for us; actually, there were two surprises, “the twins.” Their names were Jacquelin and Josselyn, or Lynn and Lynn for short (Oh, come on, Lynn and Lynn, it’s a joke.) They were identical red-headed young ladies who were not only attractive but also friendly. They occasionally got into trouble, mostly for their clothing being too revealing for a church-school. Although these offenses annoyed the teachers, the boys in the class appreciated their thoughtfulness.

On Halloween, some parents hosted a costume party for the students. A lot of kids came dressed as hobos, ghosts, cardboard robots, pirates, and cowboys. You might guess where this is going — yep, the twins came in identical French maid costumes. The costumes didn’t look like what a real-life maid would wear, nor did they look like they came from the El Monte adult store (the closest one to Alhambra…so I heard later on). Their costumes were risqué for the ultra-conservative religious school and their age; they were the talk of the parent-teacher group, and their costumes prompted the Principal to add school policy clarification regarding Halloween costumes.

The young ladies, clad in their maid costumes, are precisely what eighth-grade young lads dream of. Sometimes our eighth-grade teacher would have the kids in the class put their heads down on their desks for a time of silent meditation and prayer, which coincidentally also provided a brief break for our teacher. I wonder how many other young lad’s prayers included thanking their loving Father in heaven for bringing the twins to our class.

Thank you, Jacqueline and Josselyn, for making the eighth grade go by so swiftly.

My Observation: Two is always better than one.
